On 7 May a family picnic took place in the National Museum Gardens organised by Hungarofest – in Secession-style. The event also closed the open-air ’Masters of European Secession’ exhibition, which has toured Barcelona, Brussels and Budapest with photos of European Secessionist buildings.
A colourful picture of little girls with self-made fairy’s wings, boys in magician’s hats, parents holding balloons and artists on stilts greeted those who visited the Museum Gardens last Saturday afternoon. Picnic baskets, blankets, music and flowers everywhere, small children playing on beanbags, adults reading books in the Readers’ Grove. While the youngest ones were doing glass painting, making finger puppets or having a go at a Klimt reproduction, the older ones could try their skills at a Tiffany workshop or indulge in the tasty bites and sandwiches in the buffet.
The sporty types could join in the football, badminton and petanque games, the less active ones could watch the jugglers’, puppeteers’ and artists’s breathtaking performances. The picnic offered something exciting to do on this sunny afternoon for every member of the family.
As Monika Balatoni, creative director of Hungarofest said: „This picnic was about the whole family spending time and having fun together. Daddy could relax in the Readers’ Grove, Mum could collect new recipes, while the children were kicking the ball or making presents at the handicrafts workshops. The wonderful green surroundings and the interactive programme attracted even those who were otherwise not so interested in the professional events of the Presidency.”
