Secession, spring, sunshine and culture in all forms and large quantities, far from academic approaches and close to the family. On 7 May from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Hungarofest invites us for a for a DIY gastronomy picnic in the National Museum Gardens, where countless family and cultural programmes will be awaiting the visitors. The picnic is also the closing event of the ’Masters of European Secession’ exhibition.
After the display is taken off the museum fences, the exhibition – which has spent more than a month in Budapest – will move on to Brussels. Saturday afternoon’s programme offers activities for all ages: there will be several kinds of handicraft workshops and also a Tiffany-show, where we can learn all about the secrets of a Secessionist studio.
Secessionism is usually described as the exodus from urban environment into nature. Typically, secessionist works are charaterized by unexpected solutions of architecture and decoration and rich ornamentation of plant and animal patterns. The Secessionist mini-garden will be decorated with hundreds of beautiful flowers of all colours, and there will also be a consultation for amateur home-gardeners. You can bring your own picnic-basket, but they will also be available for rent. The Picnic Buffet will have special sandwiches, home-made bread and pastries, spreads, pestos and refreshments on the menu.
Visitors will have the opportunity to follow-up the culinary experiences with some physical exercise: badminton, petanque, ballgames and other sports activites will take place on the grass. The ever so popular Readers’ Grove will also move outside to the garden, with beanbags and hammocks to lie down with a book in the hand.
The spectacular world of the circus matches very well the Secessionist style, as well as children’s taste: artists and jugglers, colourful dresses, along with musical performances will create a magical background to the exciting programme on 7 May in the National Museum Gardens.
