On 13 October, three excellent actors, featuring Tamás Érdi on the piano, present the 10-year-long story of the friendship between three artists: Chopin, Liszt and Sand.
Drawer, painter, photographer, film director, member of the Bauhaus school, and one of the first designers in modern sense. June 9 premieres in the Ludwig Museum a retrospective exhibition of the world-famous figure of the avant-garde art. Moholy-Nagy was born Weisz in a tiny village in Southern Hungary called Bácsborsód in 1895. His father left the family, and an uncle called Gusztáv Nagy supported them afterwards. They moved with his brothers first to Mohol and later to Szeged and changed their family name to Nagy in honour of the uncle. He attended the most prestigious secondary school in Szeged, where he was taught by Mihály Babits as well.
On 8 June in the Eötvös 10 Community and Cultural Centre, the KLASSZ Talent Program presents the latest five ”KLASSZ” talents to the audience. The young musicians will play Liszt, Mozart and other works, featuring Concerto Budapest. The presenter of the evening is Piroska Bakos.
The ’Art on Lake’ exhibition is one of the most spectacular art events of the Hungarian EU presidency. Visitors are not squeezed within four walls but are free to wander around the Budapest City Park lake to view the display. All this is available to anyone till 4 September.
Karl Jenkins, British composer living in Wales is going to compose a cantata for the famous ballad The Bards of Wales (’A walesi bárdok’) by Hungarian poet János Arany. The world premiere will be in the Bartók National Concert Hall on 21 June, featuring one hundred selected Hungarian choir singers and about fifty Welsh and British singers, with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer himself.
The National Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir pay tribute to Liszt's Rome-period in a concert in the Vatican on May 27.
On 7 May a family picnic took place in the National Museum Gardens organised by Hungarofest – in Secession-style. The event also closed the open-air ’Masters of European Secession’ exhibition, which has toured Barcelona, Brussels and Budapest with photos of European Secessionist buildings.
Secession, spring, sunshine and culture in all forms and large quantities, far from academic approaches and close to the family. On 7 May from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Hungarofest invites us for a for a DIY gastronomy picnic in the National Museum Gardens, where countless family and cultural programmes will be awaiting the visitors. The picnic is also the closing event of the ’Masters of European Secession’ exhibition.
On 9th of May, 2011 at 1.30 p.m. in the framework of the Europe Day in Madrid we would like to inaugurate „The European Traditions – Spain – Hungary – 2011” Photo Exposition in the venue of the European Institutions in Madrid with the participation of Francisco Fonseca, the Director of the Representation of the European Commission, Ignacio Samper, the Director of the Representation of the European Parliament, Diego López Garrido, Spanish State Secretary for the European Affairs and Edit Bucsi Szabó, Ambassador.
Miet Warlop: Springville
Things come to life in Miet Warlop’s world, as according to her, they are not just soulless things. In Springville – her fictitious world – she is eager to find out what we can do in a situation where the things designed to serve us suddenly become our enemies and turn against us. The Belgian performance artist living and working in Berlin has been touring Europe with her unique shows. She arrived in Hungary with this exciting “thing theatre”, and in April her company gave several performances in the Trafó.
“Create memories for yourself!” – this famous Liszt saying brings a personal touch to the allday Liszt-marathon on 22nd May, as the event organised by Hungarofest KLASSZ Music Office – following the pattern of the highly successful Haydn marathon held in 2009 – once again invites the younger generations to gain memories and experiences, and of course to develop a taste for classical music.
On the occasion of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Liszt anniversary year, colourful cultural programmes are organized during April. In this article, we introduce programmes taking place in Italy and England.
May brings art to the Belgian capital in different forms: a Hungarian trumpet soloist to play with the National Orchestra, a Secessionist poster exhibition to be displayed on the City Park fences and an 18th century tapestry in a contemporary ’paraphrase’ to be shown in the Musées Royaux d' Art Histoire.
